Router Set-up Configuration (English Cx)

    I do apologize for writing in English, i am not yet that confident with my German.

    I was actually moved by Telekom to Congstar because Telekom had no reception where i moved and i was told i can purchase the router from them (SpeedPort Smart 4) and it will work just fine. It seems this was completely false, and even though Telekom said Congstar is their Partner and recommended me to Purchase the Router, is not working as it should.

    I discovered that even though my Computer will work with cable and my Wi-fi will work, the router blinks Orange and says is waiting for connection and is currently not having Internet.

    After looking it up i saw that Congstar have a manual set -up for different routers also in the mobile app, but nothing for Telekom SpeedPort Smart 4 that i could find.

    I tried to ask for the configuration over chat and i was told Congstar cannot really guide me on how to enable it.. Telekom said from their side the router is fine ..

    I am hoping is someone that can teach me on what do i need to include in the manual configuration to be able to make it work properly.

    If i log-in into the router will tell me that i am offline, and i am unaware on what configuration do i need to insert on that page. I included 3 Screenshots with router initial page, manual configuration and what i need to insert in order to make it work.

    If i select other Provider will ask me for Name of Provider, Username, Password, MTU, VlanID if needed. so on.

    Appreciate any guidance on this. Thank you!

    it's totally fine that you're writing in English. Just to make sure we understand you correctly, you contacted Telekom directly about the Speedport Smart and not us about a router? If so, how long have you had the router? When you're in the overview, do you see the "Start Assistant" option? We can forward your request to the relevant department, but you might not receive a response until after the weekend. Are you able to make a phone call? If so, please call our hotline at 0221 79 700 700.

  • Stephanie So , First i tried reaching the Congstar Chat , and i was told from their side everything works and if i have a problem with the router i should contact Telekom.

    I tried going into a Telekom Shop, and they didn't knew what to tell me about manually configuring the router for Congstar.

    I have the router from January, and the router was purchased directly from a Telekom Shop when they made me the Internet contract with Congstar.

    No i do not have a Start Assistant option available, just Configure now, and that will open me the page where i need to manually insert: Name of Provider, Username, Password, MTU, VlanID


    The Congstar app on my phone says that My connection is active , Set up your router now to go online. Just follow the steps bellow- you're connected in a few minutes.

    But the steps below are just for FritzBox router.

    Currently i am unable for a phone conversation, but i am fine with waiting for a week to get a relevant answer from that department.


    In the menu shown in the second image, you need to switch from "Telekom" to "Congstar" or "other providers". The router should have "Congstar" listed. And yes, Telekom routers also work with Congstar. If necessary, you can also unplug it for 15 minutes or perform a factory reset.

    In the menu i have just Telekom, MagentaZuhauze Region or Other provider , Congstar is not listed. If i select other provider will be the third picture where i need to manually input the configuration, which i do not have. Congstar app shows configuration only for FritzBox.

    I already tried Factory resets and unplugs, will just make it to go on the Default Telekom setting will will still ask for Manual Configuration.

    This also works with Telekom routers. With my previous "SpeedportPro", it also worked using these Fritzbox settings.

    Therefore, after these steps, simply transfer the data to the Fritzbox.

  • Well with SpeedSport Smart4 seems to not work. Fritzbox can take automatically the log in data once you enter congstar. on my router on the other hand, if i just submit congstar provider , nothing hapens, it will just completely cut off Internet, i factory reset it , then will be back on Telekom.

    Wich i guarantee is because im missing VlanID or MTU , or user and password for the provider is not the right one.

    But i think i found a solution on this forum from 2024 where you said user and password should be both congstar and the Owner of the post said he used VlanID 7 and MTU = 1492 and that was working. Will have to try it out .


    Will have to try it out . But i think this was what i was missing. and SpeedPort Require vlan ID for using Congstar connection.
