  • Hello,

I apologize as my German at the moment is not so great so i will write in English.

in January this year a Telekom shop informed me that the new address where i purchased my house is not having the option that i had with them of 250 MB DSL and i have an offer from Congstar of 100MB DSL which i took.

I was randomly checking the app to see if is any news on my address related with 1GB Fiber and i discovered that is still not available but the option of 250MB /s DSL is now available for me.

On the bill i can see my start date is 20.01.2026 for 35 Euro 100MB and the cancelation date is earliest 19.12.2027.

Can a Congstar employee confirm that if i want to change to 250MB /s DSL for the current offer 42Euro /month will not give me any penalization for changing contract ?

Also i can see in the app an AKTION for this 42Euro, but i cannot really find out if this is some promo of 3 months and then will be 45 or is something permanent ?

    Thanks a lot !

  • Hi!

Just because VDSL 250 is showing up now doesn't necessarily mean you will actually get VDSL 250. It could end up being VDSL 175.

A contractual penalty isn't to be expected. After all, it's in Telekom's best interest for customers to book the highest package possible—a penalty would run completely counter to that. So don't worry about it.

One more thing: If your landline/home internet is with congstar, you're in the right place. But if you're a Telekom customer (which your post suggests), please reach out directly to Telekom with your questions. We can't address Telekom-specific inquiries here, nor can we help if issues arise.

    Best regards!

  • Actually my ethernet was Forcely moved by Telekom to Congstar under the response that they don't have ethernet here .. but congstar have. So i am on the right place .

So , if my adress is showing as compatible with 250 means i might not get 250 ? how does that work ? how can i check this ?

currently on 100 i get 100 when i test it . Might not be during peak hours. but is mostly there on downloads.

    Hallo Dinoiu Mircea ,

please make sure to enter the correct four-digit verification PIN in your forum profile. Then I'll be happy to see how I can help you.

    Best regards, Christian

Hello, i just updated the pin with the one from the app.

    Thank you very much.

I’d be happy to switch your plan to congstar Zuhause 250 for a permanent monthly rate of €42.00, if that’s what you’d like. The switch will take about 7 business days, and of course, there’s no early termination fee. Your current contract term won’t change either.

If that works for you, please let me know that you agree to our Terms and Conditions. Then I’ll take care of everything else.

    Best regards, Christian

Could you please let me know the speed that i will get before changing anything?

My router is a SpeedPort Smart4 and i cannot test the link from above to see what max speed is available for me.

How much speed actually arrives cannot be determined in advance. However, customer support can have this checked beforehand.

As a user, you can also make an educated guess. If you have a FRITZ!Box, you can estimate it using http://192.168.178.1/#/dsl/statistics and http://192.168.178.1/#/dsl/spectrum.

If you'd like, you can upload some screenshots and we can estimate it.

I managed to get to this page. Not sure how to read this. Is 135mb max i can get in term of speed or?

Also based on my research even with this i cannot get an actual download available as changing to 250 needs an vdsl profile update and just congstar can check this?

I tried to look it up and i got that the vdsl profiles are limiting factor based on plan or something.

  • Your Speedport Smart 4 is completely fine for VDSL 250. The line stats look good for VDSL 250. Don't let anyone confuse you: you're currently on Annex B, which is used up to 100 Mbps. With VDSL 250, you'll be using supervectoring and switch to profile 35b.

Addendum due to some imprecise wording:

You remain on Annex B. Currently, you have vectoring with profile 17a. With VDSL 250, you have profile 35b (supervectoring).

Just wanted to share this quick correction.

    Hello Stephanie,

I do want to receive a confirmation of an actual expected download speed for my address to be sure that i will be able of reaching near that speed.

Can you check this first for me please?

    Hey Dinoiu Mircea,

I forwarded your questions to the relevant department and will get back to you when I got the info you're asking for.

    Hello,

i have received the following answer. I was expecting more.

I’m glad to hear you’re interested in switching plans :-) The price of your plan remains the same throughout the entire contract term—the terms and conditions in effect when you signed up always apply.Currently, that means €42.00 for congstar Zuhause 250. There are no changes to the minimum contract term.

I’ve checked the technical specifications of your line, and unfortunately, I have to advise against switching plans. From a purely technical standpoint, your DSL line supports a maximum speed of 130 Mbit/s. This means you wouldn't be able to achieve the full performance :-( Unfortunately, we have no control over the local infrastructure; the property owner would first need to have the line upgraded.

Unfortunately i don't think i can reply to that email so i will leave my following question in here.

I own the property we are discussing about and would like to better understand the technical assessment.

Could you please clarify which part of the infrastructure is responsible for limiting the speed to 130 Mbps? Is it the wiring inside the house, the copper line between the house and the street cabinet, or the equipment at the street cabinet?

Also, DSL 250 Mbps is shown as available at my address by three providers: How can these availability results be reconciled with the maximum speed of 130 Mbps you mentioned?

Have you checked whether my connection supports VDSL2 Supervectoring (profile 35b), or is your assessment based on the measurements from my current DSL 100 connection?

I would appreciate a more detailed explanation of the technical limitation, so I can understand why DSL 250 is advertised as available at my address if my line is limited to 130 Mbps.

    Thank you for your help.

  • Herzlichen Glückwunsch an den Mitarbeiter in der Abteilung, der dass an den Kunden geschickt hat 🤨

    -------------------------------------------------

I can't fathom why you received that answer.

The 130 Mbps currently being discussed is simply because you are on profile 17a. Profile 35b expands the frequency spectrum, which is what enables VDSL 250 in the first place. This has nothing to do with the drop cable to the building or the internal in-house wiring.

The only possible explanations would be an error in the database, or that there is no supervectoring line card in your MSAN—which, in 2026, would be genuinely bizarre.

  • Yeah i am hoping i will get a competent answer this time.

Because the only owners in here are me and cable provider wich is telekom.
But as long as Telekom , congstar(using their network) and Vodafone( also known of using Telekom network) say 250 is available for my adress. I cannot in the word figure out how 130 is top. Because this is false advertising if is true..Under German law, an internet provider cannot sell you a 250 Mbps product if you only sit at 130 Mbps.

And i know there are ways i can limit my download with cable spliting connection in my house or using poor quality cables to route connection to multiple point but i doubt they can test what i am doing inside my house..

On the MSAN i hope this is not a problem.. and is just an support agent who had a bad day used my router screenshot and said done.
